A Finish and A Start
Well I sewed a knit and began my first woven sewing project. I used more of the French terry to make a quick sew. This will match the Winnie Pants I made from the material a month or more ago. Now I have a lounge set.
Sewing with wovens seems to take more time than sewing with knits. First of all there is all the pressing that needs to occur. I picked up a few cute project based fabrics when Joanns was going out of business. I found 2 yards of a knitting themed cotton an thought it would make a very cute version of the Love Notions Aria button down shirt.
I had just enough to cut out all the pieces. I even have a little bit left over to add as a bag lining some day. I had to wash the fabric and then iron it - the first pressing. This pattern calls for interfacing on the color and button plackets. The second pressing of the material. After almost every step I need to press the seams and pieces. For example the pleat on the back needed to be pressed.
I did a much better job of cutting the placket pieces this time. I made a wearable muslin of this pattern last summer and have long wanted to sew it again. I did of course apply the placket pieces on the wrong side at first.
Oh that is the other thing with wovens I use my seam ripper A LOT. Once I got them on the correct side of the fabric I had to attach them, do understitching and then iron them into submission on the right side of the fabric.
I used the burrito method to enclose the back yoke section and shoulder seams. More ironing and now I added more topstitching. I basted on the first layer of the collar. I have another section of the collar to attach along with the cuffed short sleeves. I have had a try on and so far so good as far as the fit. I also have to either go through my button stash to try to find cute ones or purchase some in the correct size and quantity. I estimate I have completed at least 50% of the project. I should have a complete wearable blouse by the end of the week.
