Another Sewing for School post!

Teaching has certainly changed in many ways since I began my career. Security has been one of the areas in which the most change as occurred. Way back in the day when I was a student the only drills I remember were for aerial bombardments and fire drills. I only remember practicing a few times so it must not have made much of an impression on me.

When I first began teaching we had monthly fire drills. We had to line up students and walk them outside to the grass area. Over the years they have added additional safety measures and drills.

One of the items that a teacher has to carry with them is an emergency bag. This contains class lists, supplies and a few other items deemed necessary in the event of an emergency. Anywoo..the bags I have been given by my schools over the years have ranged from skimpy to tiny to fall aparts rapidly. At least 5 years ago I sewed my own emergency bag. If I have to exit the building I might at least be stylish.

After all this time of being carried and dragged on the ground by students trying to be helpful it needed to be replaced. It had developed a few small holes on the bottom. I went with a conservative color last time so I went with some pops of color this time.

I essentially did not follow any pattern just laid the last bag down and cut around it to make the bag. The last bag I made included a small patch pocket on the inside but in all the years I have used the bag I never put anything in that pocket so I skipped it this time. I serged all the seams and put the bag together. I cut the web strapping off of the other bag and reused it. The strap webbing was in perfect condition.

It looks great and will be used next year whenever I am walking anywhere with my new kinder friends. I will look fantastic as we all parade around together.
