Blue Valley

As expected the 2nd Valley Skater Dress is not taking as long to complete as the first. I am currently about 1/2 way complete with the dress. I simply need to sew the arms and sides together, attach waistband to skirt, hem sleeves and skirt, and attach skirt to top at waistband. It sounds like a lot more than it really will take time wise. I already have many of the seams needed basted in so it is simply a fit check and then a trip to the serger.

Eagle eyed readers will recognize this fabric. It is a double brushed poly from Olga’s Closet. I used it to make my Easter dress last year. I loved the fabric so much that I went back and purchased more (another 3 yards).

I believe I will not have nearly as much neckline drama on this one. It is looking good as far as laying in the manner intended so far. I did size up the dress. My last make fit but I thought I would like my next one to be a tad looser on me.

I am also not completely following the directions for the pockets. The pattern called for a strip of interfacing on each pocket. The pattern also had extra stitching on the pocket. I followed the directions to the tee on my first version, but I was not overly happy with how the pockets lay on that make. I am hoping they will lay flatter and be less noticeable on this version. I skipped the interfacing and extra pocket stitching. I will not truly know how that will work until I wear the dress out in public for more than a quick at home try on.
