First February Reads

I finished The Midwife of Hope River: A Novel of an American Midwife by Patricia Harman. In my review on Goodreads I wrote that this felt like Forrest Gump. She meet every “radical” organizer of the 1920s. Everything of course worked out in the end. It was a good escape read. I saw on Goodreads there are 3 more in the series but I have no interest in reading anymore in the series.

I also finished listening to The Impossible Thing by Belinda Bauer. This book is hard to describe, but I thoroughly enjoyed the listen. I read 4 books in the month of January. I am off to a good start of my year of reading.

Kindle

Abandon by Blake Couch. I think this was a recommendation from the NYT which rarely steers me wrong in the mystery department. The reviews in NYT are well written and you can tell from reading them whether you might enjoy the book. This starts out with a spooky scene of an abandoned town.

Audio Book

Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey. Reviews state that the first few chapters are excellent but then he just continues to be a major grump. It is written about the 3 seasons he was a summer camp ranger at Arches National Park. We shall soon see, since I am about 10% into the listen. He is quite a grumpy fellow.

Hardcover

So Far Gone by Jess Walter. Okay, I was wrong. This book does actually have chapters they are just crazy long. I just got to Chapter 2 after reading 75 pages. Now I am reading the large print edition, but even so…
