I made Gelato!

When I dug out my old ice cream recipe book when I got back into making frozen treats it had a few pages from magazines with more recipes. By the by I purchased the book from Amazon in 2001 when they really only sold books (for some reason I was using the packing slip for a bookmark).

One of these treasures was a recipe for Strawberry Buttermilk gelato. In consulting the internet the difference between gelato and ice cream is the fat content. Ice cream has a higher fat content due to the fats in milk. I am really not that interested in the debate my declaration is that both are delicious.

I had both strawberries and buttermilk so we off to the races. The recipe claimed I could put the mixture right into the ice cream maker without chilling it. My experience says no. I left it to really cool down in the fridge overnight.

There should be a law against something so delicious. As you can see it make a very large batch. I used the machine on two different nights to make a new batch each evening. I love the color - it looks natural, not shocking red. The fresh strawberries just add to the sweetness factor. We have been enjoying a small bowl each evening. We are rolling into summer literally.
