It’s the Fabric!

I decided to use the remainder of the Office fabric to make another sleeveless version of Love Notions Aria Buttondown shirt. Spoiler alert this one was going great until the buttonholes.

I selected to use the stand up collar on this version. I almost did not have enough fabric to make the back lining but I patched some pieces together. It was going along quite well. I even found a bias tape in my stash to binding the armholes. I hand sewed the collar down and it looked fantastic.

Then I had to do buttonholes. I am sure I am not the only sewer who fears the buttonholes. Sewers that live in LA and NYC have been known to take finished garments to the fabric districts to simply have a professional buttonhole artist complete this last step. Oh if I only lived closer.

I rethreaded the machine more times than I should mention. Undid various bird nests caused by the buttonholer attachment and was going to try burning some incense to get rid of the bad vibes. I have no idea why the buttonholer attachment went insane everytime I tried to make a buttonhole on the fabric. I tried it on other fabrics and it would work perfectly. Despite this picture those buttonholes do not look nice at all on the backside.

Can a fabric be cursed? I had so many issues with the pants I made which I chalked up to sewing while sick, but maybe….

Anywoo I finally got 6 exceedingly ugly buttonholes complete. How long they will actual last on this garment is anyone’s guess..
