New Pattern/New Shirt

Ellie & Mac released a new shirt/dress pattern, the Petunia Princess Seam Peplum & Dress. I seem to have become a new type of sewer. I buy the pattern and then immediately sew up a sample. I love a princess seam and think the cut is very flattering on my figure. I am not sure about the peplum style, but I was willing to try it. The pattern comes with lots of options for sleeves and necklines.

The pattern is drafted for stable knits. Liverpool knit fabric was one of the suggestions. I happened to have about a yard of some liverpool knit that I had bought at some time. Now just like many of my sewing projects there was some fabric juggling involved but I made it work. Look at the small amount of scraps i had left over. I consider this almost zero waste sewing.

I did not have enough for a dress. In hindsight I should have cut the peplum on the shorter length line. Once it was complete it was the length of a very short mini dress. It would be perfect for my DD but not for this older model.

I made the cap sleeves. I did not complete them exactly per the pattern directions but they work. I also managed to get the flamingos pointing in the correct direction. Long time readers will know this sometimes is an issue for me.

Instead of hems I simply serged the edges of the sleeves and the bottom hem. I added a neckband and I like the look of that option. I will wear it at least once before I make a final decision on the length and hemming. It is a very comfortable shirt and I think it is an adorable print.
