New Sweatshirt
I bought Wheels on the Bus sweatshirt fleece from Raspberry Creek Fabrics at least over a year or more ago (but if you put in the keyword bus on the search feature it will show up for ordering). When it arrived I was a little disappointed in my own ability to visualize scale of the graphic in real life. Can we just all agree that measuring is not my strongest skill. Hence is sat in the collection for quite a while until it called to me.
My original plan was to make it into a cardigan I could wear at school. I teach Kindergarten my students all know this song. Well time and experience will always bring you to your senses. I decided I really did not to wear this print to school due to the fact that it would like to repeated spontaneous singing of the song. This would be cute the 1st or 2nd time but not after the 15th.
Suddenly the fabric spoke to me it wanted to be a Sinclair Nova Raglan Sweatshirt. I thought the scale would work in my favor with the pattern. Of course there were a few modifications. In previous versions I have added a kangaroo pocket, but did not want to disrupt the fabric flow on this version. I have never added the patch pocket on the upper front. Not a feature that ever draws me to a garment.
I added a hood because duh no neck binding. I do not often add drawstrings to hoodies. In fact if I purchase a hoodie with a drawstring I immediately remove said drawstring. I find they just get in my way and I have never cinched down a hoodie with the drawstring. This makes hood application easier, but I do miss getting to install gromments. I will live.
The pattern calls for cuffs and a banded bottom. I was trying it on for size and my DH remarked he liked it better with no cuffs, just hanging loose. Therefore, I simply folded up a hem on both the arms and bottom. I also like how to hangs on my person this way.
Can we just take a few minutes to revel in the perfection that is the pattern placement on the hood! That my friends is a thing of sewing beauty.
This fabric is an absolute delight to touch. It is so soft and just feels great when it is against your skin. I am very pleased with the quality of the sweatshirt fleece. It is not a super heavy fleece so will be perfect for my Mohave desert Winter
