School Sewing Repairs

Well I not only repair and sew my own clothes but sometimes I have to sew a repair on a school item.

One item all elementary teachers use is something called a sentence strip holder. You can place all kinds of sentence strips and other teaching goodies to display to students.

I have a red one I use to construct a 100s chart in my classroom each year. Somewhere along the line the stitching came loose and my number card was out of whack. This drives me up a wall so it had to be fixed. I attached a piece of tape as a temporary fix but it really did not function as I thought.

I did have to wait until I tore my room down for the summer. Well I guess I could have taken all the number cards from 1-100 out of the chart but then I would have to put them back in the chart.

Honestly I think I spent more time selecting the correct color thread than the repair job took. This will make one less small thing that causes me to lose my mind next year.

Speaking of charts a few years ago I wanted a specific chart that I could use to help my students place events in a story in order (this is a big skill in kindergarten). No company made what I was envisioning so I set a goal to make my own.

It works like a charm and even with children touching and using it still looks good. I used a ripstop nylon for the base, made my own binding from an ABC fabric and clear vinyl for the card holders. It is always nice when a vision for a project appears as you would like.
