Travels to New York (Viajes a Nueva York)

My father passed away at the end of March and this month we held his Celebration of Life ceremony in his hometown in Upstate New York. This necessitated an airplane journey from Nevada. My siblings and I had divided the planning of all the events. I was in charge of planning the church ceremony including delivering an eulogy.

Mi padre falleció a finales de marzo y este mes celebramos su ceremonia de Celebración de la Vida en su ciudad natal, al norte del estado de Nueva York. Esto requirió un viaje en avión desde Nevada. Well, our flight from Las Vegas was delayed 8 hours and there were moments when I thought we were actually not going to make the ceremony. Our plane landed in Syracuse at 4am on the morning of the service. The town where it was being held was another 90 minute drive. We did make the ceremony with time to spare. It was a lovely ceremony filled with love and laughter. My siblings had planned the after reception which was also lovely.

Bueno, nuestro vuelo desde Las Vegas se retrasó ocho horas y hubo momentos en que pensé que no íbamos a asistir a la ceremonia. Nuestro avión aterrizó en Syracuse a las 4 de la mañana del servicio. The next day we visited with my sister and a short visit with my brother who had to drive back to his home in Vermont. I grew up in the Finger Lakes area of New York which is famous for its natural beauty and wineries. The Finger Lakes were carved out by glaciers millions of years ago. They not only created the lakes but also many waterfalls. Many are easily viewed from your car window as you drive by. We decided to get out to explore this waterfall.

It was stunning place with the water falling gently.

This portion of New York also has a few still working locks on the Erie Canal.

We stopped to view one of the locks. No boats were passing through but still a stunning piece of engineering to view.

I sew mostly garments but my sister only sews quilts. She has been working on a very large quilt as a graduation present for my DD. We were able to view the mostly finished piece at her house. Only the binding remains to be completed. One of DD favorite colors is pink.

Yo coso principalmente ropa, pero mi hermana solo hace colchas. Ha estado trabajando en una colcha muy grande como regalo de graduación para mi hija. Pudimos ver la pieza casi terminada en su casa. Solo falta terminar el ribete. Uno de los colores favoritos de mi hija es el rosa.
