First Week of School
I have survived the first week back at school. I have been teaching in the same school district for over 30 years. I have been at my current school building for 8 years. During that time I have been made to move classrooms 4 times. (yes, you are right that does seem excessive).
By far this latest move is the most annoying and hardest. I was made to move out of a room specifically for kindergarten to a classroom about 1/3 of the size. Another program demanded the kindergarten room because it comes with a bathroom. I had to move all my teaching items. I have a lot because I teach very small children who need hands on activities to best learn. It took a long time to move everything and days for me to set up the new space.
The classroom I was moved to had not been used as an actual classroom for a few years. This meant no one had updated any of the technology and whatever technology had been in the room originally had been removed over time. I finally do have a working computer, but still no printer.
I am starting to get the flow of the room, but anytime I try something new I discover something else that does not function in the room. They are getting tired of me placing work orders.
We have all survived the first week of school. The first month of kindergarten is not for the weak. They are brand new humans who have never been in a classroom before. There is a lot of learning and training that must occur, but we will get there. Good thing those kiddos are so cute:)
Everyone seems very happy and the kids are loving being in school. This is a view of the room from my front door. This is pretty much the size of the room.
In addition to the smaller room size we suddenly have an abundance of kindergarteners. The school has 3 kinder classes and we all have 25 kids each and more students are registering. The last few years I have not had more than 20 students. I do not have an aide and it is a full day program with no nap time. We will have a very productive and happy year together. It should start to cool down within a month so we can spend more time outside in the fresh air learning.
