Beginning of Reading '24
Vacation gave me extra reading time. I also somehow signed up for reading challenges on my Kindle. Amazon keeps sending me messages about how I have earned different badges. I have no idea of how it even works, I just keep reading. I have already finished two books in 2024. The latest Richard Osman Thursday Murder Club mystery, The Last Devil to Die. This was actually my first finish of the new year and was read on my Kindle. I enjoy this series which is funny and goofy. The hardcover book I finished was Starter Villan by John Scalzi. A fun read about a strange inheritance.
Just before the end of 2023 I did finish True Biz by Sara Novic. I can't recommend it too highly. It had way too many different story lines and was sometimes preaching at you instead of entertaining.
Hardcover
The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. I selected it based on the setting, Upstate New York (I think there are worse ways to select your next book). It is a mystery and I have only just begun it so not too sure what I think yet.
Audio Book
Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See. The setting is China during the 1400s. I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. This book is very well written and interesting. The main character is a very upper class women in China and how she studies medicine.
Kindle Book
Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia. Another book set in Upstate New York. It won the American Library Association Alex Prize. It is a mystery set at a high school music festival. It is better than it sounds based on this description. Well drawn characters are just one of its many delights.
