Buttermilk Baking
Who wants to make the best buttermilk French Texas toast? I went to a different grocery store the other day which carries 1/2 gallons of buttermilk for a good price. Guess what you will be seeing in the next few cooking posts? I was also able to get a loaf of Texas Toast at the same store. For those of you not in the know Texas Toast is simply bread sliced very thickly. You know how Texans like everything big. Anyhoo, it makes excellent french toast.
I first made the dipping batter.
The stove we bought quite a few years ago came with a cast iron griddle in the middle. The salesman was apologetic about the griddle and stated we could look around for another model withot the griddle. I looked at him like he had 3 heads and yelled I'll take it as is! Passing up a cast iron griddle I would have had to be out of my ever loving mind.
After a few minutes I turned over the bread to cook the other side. I served these with some fresh fruit and pure Vermont maple syrup. We feasted like Queens and Kings.
