Egg Dying

There was egg dying that occurred for Easter. My DD asked me on Saturday if we were still dying eggs. I reassured her we most certainly were. Her and my DH have been dying eggs together since she was very tiny.

I just buy the dying kits at the store when they first appear. I also dye eggs with my kindergarten students. This is a bit of a different process. Open containers of dye water and small children does not usually end in a happy place. I am able to buy a kit from either Target or Walmart that contains a dozen "fake" eggs. I am not sure exactly what these eggs are made of - it is some man made material but they are not plastic or foam. The packet comes with 4 packs of liquid dye. Each student is allowed to pick their color. We place their egg inside a plastic bag and add a few drops of liquid dye. They move the egg around in the bag and then it is removed for drying.

The hardest part of this entire activity is convincing the students they have to wait until the egg is dry before touching it and taking it home. The numbers are the egg correspond to a student number, all the eggs look the same and it can be hard to tell which egg belongs to which student without a system.
