First Day of Summer Vacation Hike
On the first day of summer vacation my DH and I headed out to a wetlands park very close to our house. Over the past few years the county has worked very hard to improve the wetlands.
They have put in a very nice play/learning area for small children. The paths are very well marked and many are paved so it is accessible to all.
There are quite a few water features. At this one we heard a bullfrog who let us know about his presence. We saw quite a bit of wildlife on our early morning hike. Jack rabbits which we were kinda madly running around. We were confused until we also saw the coyote loping around in the area. Birds, including a roadrunner and quails.
Before I moved out West I had never actually seen a quail unless it was on an alphabet chart. They are quite interesting birds. Easy to spot due to the feature on top of their head. You can just barely see it in this picture.
We ended up walking/hiking for about 45 minutes and went over a mile on the trails. A great way to start the summer vacation.
