Guess Who Started A New Bag?
My serger had to go in for a deep clean and to have her needle plate realigned (haven't we all sister). Horrors of horrors this meant I was without her for a whole week. What is a sewer to do? Start making items that need no serging (even many of my favorite woven patterns I try to serge as much as possible, but I do not serge any seams on my handbags?). This means there has been some bag making has been happening up in here.
I bought the Lotus Bucket Bag pattern from Sewing Seeds of Love a month or so ago when she was having a pattern sale (yes, I bought more than this one pattern- don't you know me better by now dear reader). The designer is based in Singapore. Her patterns do not have directions, but each has a detailed youtube tutorial (she has a channel). I have made a few things from her before and I really enjoy her makes and her patterns. One of the best things about her videos is that there is no talking. I do enjoy many youtube tutorials but some I find a little distracting with all the talking. The only small issue I have is that all the measurements are in metric. Americans really do not do metric system measurements. After sewing a few of her patterns I am getting better at translating the measurements to inches.
A pleasant Sunday afternoon was spent cutting out all the pieces needed and applying woven interfacing.
I will soon begin the sewing portion of this project. I decided to make the bottom and straps in white faux leather. This is mainly because I do not have a long enough piece of cork fabric to use for the purse straps. I would not make the bottom of the bag from cork. I thought since I am using faux leather on the bottom why not go all in the faux leather.
