Mid June Reading

Some good finishes over the past week. Goodreads is very happy because i am way ahead on my reading goal for the year. I finished Issac's Storm by Erik Larson and The Secret Diary of Henrick Groen 83 1/4 years Old by Henrick Groen (which ended on quite a sad note). I also began and finished quite a delightful little novel on love and loss entitled, The Last Chinese Chef by Nicole Mones.

Kindle Ebook

The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate. This book is set in the same geographic area but during 2 different time periods. The subject matter is not light (life after slavery and teaching struggles), but the book is what I consider a light read. Everything will work out for the best for all involved by the end of the book, so not at all like real life.

Car Audio

The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende. This is an older book in her writing. Very interesting and well written. I have just started it so am still becoming familiar with the characters, etc.

Ipod Audio

Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr. Oh my goodness parts of this book are very hard emotionally to read/listen to. I think that is one of the marks of a great writer when you become invested in your book characters.

Hardcover Book

The Orphans of Davenport: Eugenics, The Great Depression, and The War Over Children's Intelligence by Marilyn Brookwood. Parts of this book will break your heart. It is non-fiction and appears well researched. Deals mainly with Iowa in the 1930s and what happened at the beginning of the psychology profession.
