Sleeve Island
I have finished the first sleeve on the knitted cardigan. I once knit a cardigan sweater with shorter sleeves. I do not like the look. I want the sweater to be functional, not pretty. The pattern has the sleeves be about 3/4 but I lengthened them to full sleeve length.
It looks a little strange laying down since the sleeve length is longer than the sweater. But then human arms do not stop at the hip bone either - so there is that! I ended up knitting 17 inches from the underarm join to just before the cuff.
Honestly this length seemed like forever to achieve. I am knitting in the round and the sweater body just gets twisted up while knitting. I kept putting it on to try the length and being disappointed I had only appeared to have knit a 1/4 inch from my last check. Finally I achieved the length I desired.
I think it looks slightly more normal in the above pic. When all is said and done I wound up the right amount of skeins (4). Of course, I still have a whole other skein to figure out what to make. Maybe this is why my yarn collection never really seems to shrink. I hope the yarn wears well. Nothing worse then spending hours knitting a masterpiece only to have it pill while you are looking at it.
