A Reading Update
I finished The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen. I really did not enjoy this book after about the halfway point. I kept reading because I thought maybe it will get better. No, just more confusing and violent. It won a Pulitizer Prize for Fiction (2016) so maybe I am just not smart enough to see the greatness in this book. I tried reading The Loneliness of Sunny and Sonia by Kiran Desai. I returned the book after about 20 pages. it was not holding my interest at all.
Kindle
What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. The author is Australian and all her books are set in that country. They are what I would classify as “chick-lit” (which I personally find an insulting, dismissive book label) but not your typical love stories. The premise of this book is the main character suffers a head injury and has no memory of the last 10 years. At first I thought the book was going to be pure fluff, but the more I read the deeper I am finding this book. What would you do if you suddenly woke up with no memory of the last 10 years of your life, but everyone else remembers everything.
