Does This Bag Make Me Look Fluffy?
Many years ago I tried to convince myself i might like quilting. Well, frankly I have never meet a 1/4” seam I could sew in a straight line. Before I came to my senses I bought a few kits at a quilt shop. I want to work through some of these kits (well at least the ones I could not pawn off on my sister (who is a fantastic quilter but runs away in tears whenever I mention sewing a garment).
I thought I would start with an easy one - a small little quilted candy bag. The kit contained more than enough (except thread) required materials to complete the project. The first step was to iron on the vinyl layer to the candy bag (which was included in the kit). This was relatively easy to accomplish.
By the way, if this becomes something I enjoy making these candy pouches might be trouble. I will have to make the sacrifice necessary to acquire more. But I digress! I then simply quilted semi-straight lines attaching the outer bag to the batting and lining. I can sew a straight line, just not when quilting. It looks perfectly straight when viewed from a galloping horse so it works for me.
After all the lines I had to square up the project. One of the hardest parts was attaching the zipper correctly so the bag would actually zip closed. I placed it and rechecked it about 4 times before I sewed it together. I am trying to break up with my seam ripper.
I really like how the project finished and it is super cute. If I was ever tempted to sell at a market (please slap me back to reality if I ever decide to make this a business) I think these would really be popular. Only issue is you do crave a candy bar every time you look at it!
