Friday FO Crochet Version
I finally finished a very long suffering WIP. According to Ravelry I began this project in October of 2024. I bought the kit from a company in Hong Kong and it came with all the needed supplies.
It took so long to complete because of the trillion steps involved in completing the project. I first had to crochet into lots of small plastic rings to join them together. I cut out the plastic canvas to required size and crocheted into each piece. Sewed the completed plastic canvas together, then sewed the lining. (Which they suggest you hand sew! No thank you). The lining had to be attached to the canvas and the rings attached to the plastic canvas.
Another item was to crochet the straps and attach them with included hardware. The last item was to crochet side pieces for the zipper.
This kit is advertised as a way to learn to crochet. If this is your first crochet project it will never be completed and you will probably never pick up crochet as a hobby. I have been crocheting for almost 40 years and this is a beast of a project. First issue is that you are not crocheting with “normal” materials. I have crocheted into plastic rings before for a project a long time ago, but this is not common in crochet projects. I have never crocheted into plastic canvas (which by the way is not easy to do).
The company did provide videos to help with each step which were semi-easy to follow. You really could only follow what the instructor was saying if you had prior crochet experience. When I reached out to the company with issues about accessing the videos they were very prompt and helpful in their replies.
I did not think the order of attaching the lining and hardware was correct. You have them added after the project is basically complete. This leaves you with metal things on the inside of the purse which immediately grab anything you actually place in the purse. I have only put two things inside the purse and it has snagged each item. This is not what I look for in a purse. This is more of a decorative purse than a functional one.
I would not ever be tempted to make another. I am glad this project is complete. Only my stubborn pride kept me from tossing the whole thing. It was not a project that inspired joy in my crafting life.
