Matching top to the pants

I still have lots of the material starring in last weeks pants. Decided to try my hand at making a Love Notions Melody Dolman. Katrina from Lifting Pins & Needles adores this pattern and has made it over 10 times. I watched a few of her videos to get some neat hacks before I began the process.

Katrina loves a nicely finished seam and always tries to enclose many of her seams. She showed how to draft a back facing to make the collar an easier job than in the pattern.

It was really quite easy to draft the back facing. Katrina has inspired me to do the correct habits in my sewing. I stay stitched the neckline and used more interfacing on the front than was required.

I also serged all the seams before sewing them together. This material does not seem prone to unraveling but I thought with wovens it is often an issue. The shoulder seams and side seams went together quite well.

The construction of the shirt was pretty straight forward. I did use Katrina’s camp collar hack and it made the collar look fantastic.

I think it pairs very nicely with the Tulum pants. A new set, which I can also wear as separates. I will be making this pattern again. I think I will size up - this fits but I would like a little more ease on my next version. All told about a 3 hour make.
