New Dress

I had selected my pattern of the month and had it all taped and ready to go. This month feature will be the Valley Knit Skater Dress from Sinclair Patterns. The patterns features 3 different sleeve options (one of which is sleeveless).

It has pleats in the front and back and of course it comes with pockets. The waistband is constructed in a unique way. It is an intermediate sew I would guess. None of the techniques are that difficult, just takes time. I am sure by the end of the month when I am making my 3rd or 4th the time will lessen.

I used a DBP (Double Brushed Poly) I purchased a few months ago from Olga’s Fabrics, right before she closed her fabric business. It gives a very 1970s vibe, which I totally am loving.

I was a little concerned the fabric might be a tad too much but made into this dress it looks great. The pocket construction was also a little different, but I think they will lay nicer in the end. They look smoother on an actual person, than this picture would have you believe. You can really see the pleat in this photo.

You know I had issues with the neckband. I even considered if this dress might just work with a hood. I only had to apply the neckband 3 times before I got it to lay as I wanted. Part of the issue is that I tend to cut my neckbands just a tad too long in length. I figure it is easier to cut some length off of a neckband then try to add it back in later.

This was my test piece to try sizing. I have plans for my next one that I will make out of cotton lyrca. It also comes with different necklines, including a boat neckline (I will not being doing that - I do not particularly enjoy a boat neckline, they are usually too wide for me). This dress has been husband approved!
