Sewing Advent 2025 Kit #1

I have been purchasing the sewing Advent Box from Sallie Tomato for a few years. These are some of the kits I want to finish this month. This is not “technically” a sewing project, but since it came in a sewing advent and I make the rules around here - I am counting it!

It was a kit to make a thread spool garland. The kit contained 12 wooden spools, the twine and the faux leathers/cork to make the project.

First step was to cut all the precut sqaures of either faux leather or cork into 1” strips. I used my rotary mat and cutter to quickly achieve this.

The project called for a hot glue gun and I have more than one of those. I heated it up. The directions had you wrap a strip around each spool. Don’t look too closely at the hot glue mess. I got better the more I made.

I then strung them together on the twine. The directions gave a great hint to hot glue the ends of each spool where the twine was (honestly this was the hardest portion of the project). This means your spools will stay in place on the twine and not all bunch into the middle. I think it turned out very cute. I am not usually a garland type of gal but this would be fun to hang up in my sewing space.
