Visiting Repair City

Well this time there were no items to repair from my DD. My DH has a favorite snow boarding/skiing jacket which he has had for over 30 years. It developed a tear on one of the inner pockets.

The first thing I had to do was cut away all the various strings hanging out. I decided to hand sew the repair because I did not want to pierce the outer layer making it less airtight and waterproof. I hand stitched the fresh clean edges together.

It turned out pretty well. You cannot see the repair from the outside of the jacket. The next items were both for me.

Over a year ago I sewed myself a skirt and when I was ironing it after washing I noticed a tear on the seam near the pocket. The skirt is comfortable to wear and looks great on a person. But I remember the fabric being quite naughty when being sewed. The weights of the materials used were uneven (denim and flannel) which made sewing seams a little tricky.

A few minutes at the sewing machine and it was all fixed. The last item was a favorite Fall dress. I thrifted this dress and it looks adorable paired with boots. The material is beginning to wear around the neckline. At first I just planned on zigzagging around the placket. I accomplished that but then noticed another problem area near the top bottom.

I zig zagged that as best as I was able. Of course before the repair I was cutting away strings of worn fabric to try to get a cleaner edge. This is not the prettiest repair ever completed but it is hidden to some extent by the busy nature of the fabric. These pieces will live to see at least one more wear in the season.
