A Semi Success
I pinned a recipe for chocolate covered jellied cranberry sauce months ago. Of course it used Ocean Spray canned sauce. After I returned from the Fair I had a jar of my jellied cranberry sauce I opened instead of replacing in the canning cupboard. I sliced the sauce as directed.
I am not sure if because mine is so good and does not contain a ton of chemicals it was less firm than the commercailly canned version. My slices were a little loosy goosy. The original recipe stated to put the slices in the freezer for a few minutes to help them firm up a little more. I tried after an hour in the fridge still too slippy. I ended up leaving them in the freezer for over 24 hours.
You were supposed to dry them with a paper towel. That was a semi success. I had my chocolate all prepped and ready to go. The first dip went reasonably well.
The rest went semi downhill from there. The slices were very cold and this was a shock to the warm chocolate. They were so cold they started to harden the chocolate upon contact. The remaining 3 slices turned out all pretty much like the one below.
They did not win anything in the presentation category but more than made up for it in the taste category. I am not sure if I would ever make these again, but it was a fun and delicious experiment. Despite their less than stellar good looks they all got eaten. The combo of cranberries and chocolate is a good one.
