New Fabrics

I just returned from a trip to Alicante, Spain. Our daughter is studying abroad there for a semester. We flew to visit her from my Spring Break. I looked up fabric stores before I left. Like many places here in the United States there are not many fabric stores left in business.

The first I visited was La Tienda de Gloria, this was a very small mostly quilting shop. She did not have any fabrics I could not find in the United States, in fact some of her fabrics were imported from the States.

I then found the mother load of a shop called El Kilo Alicante. This had lots and lots of fabrics. It was hard to select just a few pieces, but I managed.

The first I selected is a heavier weight fabric for bags. I only got a meter of this which is more than enough for a bag.

The next two fabrics I found are actually “twins” just in different colorways. They are cotton and will be used to make a top and a dress.

I am bilingual (Spanish) so was easily able to chat with the sales clerks. I also looked up how many meters I would need to purchase before I left. In the United States we sell fabric by the yard. Another fact I found interesting is that there are fabric stores and then there are notion stores. I saw a store that sold ribbons, etc. but did not have time to visit just drooled at the shop window.
